How is an accountant's price calculated?

Fees are freely set: each firm sets its own prices. An accountant (expert-comptable) must sign a written contract with each client that defines the assignment: the engagement letter (lettre de mission) (article 151 of the code of professional conduct, decree no. 2012-432 of 30 March 2012).

Five factors make the price vary:

FactorWhy it matters
Legal formA company must prepare annual accounts and a tax return package (liasse fiscale) and have them approved. A micro-entreprise has lighter obligations.
Volume of documentsThe more invoices and bank transactions, the more data entry and checking.
EmployeesEvery payslip and every monthly DSN filing adds work.
VAT (TVA) regimeMonthly, quarterly or annual returns, or VAT exemption.
Extra servicesAnnual legal work, forecast, dashboard, pay advice.

Online firm or local firm: what is the price difference?

Online firms often show low entry prices. They rely on automation and remote follow-up, sometimes with a different contact at each exchange.

Local firms often charge more, but offer a stable contact and knowledge of the local business community.

Viseeon brings together independent accountants based in their own city, with online tools. You keep one dedicated accountant and posted prices.

How do you compare two accountant quotes?

Ask every firm these six questions:

  1. Who does the data entry? You, the firm, or an automated tool?
  2. Are the annual accounts, tax return package and approval of the accounts included?
  3. How much does a payslip cost, and the DSN?
  4. How many meetings a year with the accountant in person?
  5. What is the response time to your questions?
  6. What termination terms does the engagement letter provide?

A quote that does not answer these questions clearly may hide extra charges.

Are accountant fees regulated?

No, they are freely set. They must appear in the engagement letter signed between you and the firm.

Is an accountant mandatory?

No, no business is required to use an accountant. But companies have heavy accounting and tax obligations, which most owners prefer to hand over.

Do I pay less if I do the data entry myself?

Often yes. But incomplete entries lead to corrections. Check what the firm charges if it has to redo your entries.

Why does the price go up with employees?

Each employee means a monthly payslip, social declarations and tracking of hires, departures and absences.

Are the fees tax deductible?

Yes, they are business expenses under the standard (réel) regime. For a micro-entreprise, they are covered by the flat-rate allowance.

I think I pay too much, what can I do?

Compare what you pay with your real needs using our simulator, then ask your firm for an explanation. If the gap remains, switching accountant is simple and possible during the year.

Is the first meeting paid?

At Viseeon, the first 20-minute video call is free and carries no obligation.
